  • How Dataships helps online businesses grow their marketing audiences
  • The value of dynamic consent forms
  • Satisfying compliance needs for data consent

Dataships is an interesting niche vendor focused on improving ecommerce site compliance with data privacy regulations whilst simultaneously increasing opt-in rates to boost marketing activity.

What’s interesting is that Dataships is able to dynamically change consent forms and opt-in capture forms based on a user’s location, to ensure the website doesn’t unnecessarily block legitimate opt-in permissions.

In this episode co-founder Michael Storan and head of partnerships Ian Madigan explain how the solution works and how ecommerce merchants are using it to get results.

Discussion notes

  1. Before we dive into our questions, can you give a summary of what Dataships does, as in what’s the issue/need you satisfy and how do you differ from ESPs that can provide opt-in boxes for data capture?
  2. Let’s talk about the changing face of data compliance for marketing consent – what do you find are the biggest challenges businesses face, especially those without experienced compliance officers?
  3. Let’s talk about dynamic consent forms. One size fits all is dangerous with data privacy given the variations between countries; Dataships automates compliance with global privacy laws, can you talk us through how and what exactly it does?
  4. One of your selling points is that you can increase the % of contacts collected with marketing permissions – you claim 22% pre and 75% post > how do you do this and how is this validated as genuine uplift, not just a broken system with an easy fix?
  5. What do you provide in terms of compliance records and logs, and how is this accessed, as being able to demonstrate compliance is important?
  6. And let’s talk implementation: what’s the integration path for adding Dataships to an ecommerce platform? It’s currently only Shopify & Klaviyo isn’t it?
  7. And how are preference centres managed, do you simply push data into Klaviyo, or can you also provide and manage the preference centre?
  8. You state a 95% acceptance rate for cookies: what do you provide to enable fully compliant cookie banners that are on-brand and can be configured to only appear for site users when legally required?
  9. Which countries/territories do you cover and any new ones in the pipeline?
  10. What’s in the roadmap: will you be integrating with other tech partners, are there new features in the pipeline?
  11. And last but by no means least, what’s the pricing model and is there a free trial version?
